For Katrina's Sun-Dial
Henry Van Dyke

                Time is...
Too slow for those who wait,
Too swift for those who fear,
Too long for those who grieve,
Too short for those who rejoice.
But for those who love, time is Eternity;
                Hours fly,
                Flowers die,
                New days,
                New ways
                Pass by.
                Love stays.

The above poem by American Henry Van Dyke is inscribed on a stone plaque outside the United States embassy in London. A steel girder from World Trade Center One is buried beneath the plaque. The poem was read in Westminster Abbey at a November 2001 memorial service for victims of the September 11 terror attacks.
